→What is a bank routing number?
A routing number is a 9-digit code that identifies your bank in the US financial system. You use it (with your account number) for direct deposits, automatic payments and wire transfers. Many large banks use a different routing number depending on the state where you opened your account, and a separate number for wire transfers — so always confirm yours before sending money.
Routing number vs SWIFT code
Routing numbers are for transfers within the United States. For money coming from outside the US, the sender needs the bank's SWIFT/BIC code instead.
