When this ends, it will be the end of Mizuho Bank.
I occasionally go to the branch I used when I lived in Tokyo to fill out my account details. Even when I go to the counter to update my passbook, the service is always good and I'm impressed. It's no wonder this is a branch of one of Japan's leading city banks.
The lady at the lottery counter was very friendly and cute, and said to me, "I hope you win the lottery!", which made my trip very pleasant. I didn't win the lottery ticket, but I'll buy one here again next time I come.
I don't know what happend with the other Foreigner customers who gave a bad review, but for me, this bank is the best one I had worked with till now!
This branch is one of very few in Nagano Prefecture. It's one of two branches, the Nagano Branch and the Matsumoto Branch.
I've hardly used Mizuho Bank in recent years, so I decided to take the plunge and cancel my account. It's part of my decluttering efforts. And cancellations can only be made at staffed branches.
It's about a 10-minute walk from Matsumoto Station. I arrived right when they opened at 9am, and it wasn't crowded.
As usual, there were a lot of guides outside the counter. The cancellation procedure itself took about 20 minutes. The staff at the counter were very polite, and I wanted to make an excuse to come back and see them, but I probably won't.
Front desk persons had Very bad attitude
This was before the coronavirus pandemic.
I had quit my job and went to open an account before finding my next job.
I listed my occupation as unemployed. My purpose for opening the account was to save money. When I wrote this, the middle-aged woman with messy hair at the counter said in a forceful tone, "You're unemployed and you want to save money!?"
She was so rude I didn't know what to say in response.
I opened the account because I might need a city bank account at my new job, but fortunately I didn't need it, so I immediately withdrew the full amount.
My balance is 0 yen, but I didn't go through the process of canceling it, so I'm leaving it as it is. I never want to go to the counter again.
I went to open an account for my son, but the male staff member who was there when we entered was incredibly unfriendly.
I feel like it was my own fault for going in without knowing that I had to make a reservation, but he said I couldn't do it without making one first. When I asked when they were open, he replied, "Do you have a smartphone? Visit their website and check."
I feel like there could have been a more considerate way of putting it...
It's an outdated building. But it has the kind of atmosphere that suggests it might house public security or government facilities.
I went to change my address for the first time in a while and had to wait at the counter for several tens of minutes, and then an older man came out from the back and scolded me, asking why I had an account with no transaction activity.
It seems that Mizuho Bank these days finds customers with deposits of just a few million to be a nuisance.
The local regional bank is kinder and more polite.
And the wait means you have to pay for parking instead.
