Today's mid-market EUR rate
Collected 2 Aug 2026 00:02 UTCThis is the real rate euros trade at before anyone adds a margin. Every counter in Madrid quotes worse than this — the only question is by how much.
| Pair | Mid-market rate | A fair counter offer (2% spread) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 USD → EUR | 0.868513 | 0.851143 or better |
| 1 GBP → EUR | 1.1690 | 1.1456 or better |
| 1 AED → EUR | 0.236491 | 0.231761 or better |
| 1 SAR → EUR | 0.231603 | 0.226971 or better |
Mid-market rates come from our own hourly corridor feed (the same data behind our transfer comparisons). The "fair counter offer" column is the mid-market rate less a 2% spread — a rough line in the sand for walk-in cash, not a quote from any shop on this page. Nobody here publishes live board rates; you still have to ask.

How to not get a bad rate in Madrid
- Ask for the amount in hand, not the rate. "How many euros do I get for this?" cannot be answered with a good rate and a hidden commission.
- Divide the board rate by the mid-market rate above. 0.98 or better is a fair walk-in spread. 0.94 means you are paying 6% to change money.
- Airport and hotel counters are the worst rate in any city, including this one. They price captivity, not competition. Change the minimum you need to get into town.
- Count it before you leave the counter, and keep the receipt — some countries require it to convert leftover local currency back on the way out.
- 17 of the shops above are rated 3.5+ by at least five customers. Rating is not rate, but a shop that people bother to rate well is rarely the one running a bait-and-switch on the board.
Cards worth carrying instead of cash in Spain
A card with no foreign-exchange loading beats almost every counter rate in this city. These are available from banks operating in Spain.
Advertiser disclosure: some “Apply Now” links are partner links and Buzdy may earn a commission if you apply. This never changes what you pay or the order products are shown in.

Questions about changing money in Madrid
- How many money changers are there in Madrid?
- Buzdy tracks 20 currency exchange businesses within 25 km of central Madrid, Spain. 17 of the 20 listed above carry a Google rating of 3.5 or better from at least five customers, and the list is ordered by that rating rather than by who paid.
- What exchange rate should I be getting in Madrid today?
- The mid-market rate — the real rate banks trade at, with no margin — is currently 1 USD = 0.868513 EUR (collected 2 Aug 2026 00:02 UTC). No walk-in shop will give you that exactly; they make their money on the gap. What it tells you is whether the gap you are being offered is 0.5% or 6%. Take the board rate, divide by the mid-market rate, and anything below about 0.97 is worth walking on from.
- Which money changers in Madrid are open now?
- We hold published opening hours for 16 of the 20 shops listed. Each card shows an Open now or Closed badge worked out in Madrid's own local time, plus when it next opens. Exchange counters keep shorter hours than banks and often close on public holidays, so call before making a special trip.
- Is it cheaper to use a money changer or a bank in Madrid?
- For physical cash, an independent changer in a competitive district almost always beats a bank branch counter, because the branch prices convenience and the changer prices footfall. The comparison that actually matters is the one against the mid-market rate shown at the top of this page, not the one against the shop next door — two shops on the same street can both be 4% off. Ask for the all-in figure you will receive in hand, after any commission, before you agree.
