Hang Seng Bank — Causeway Bay Branch 28 Yee Wo Street Causeway Bay

I had an extremely disappointing and concerning experience at this Hang Seng Bank branch today. I am an international student currently studying in Canada, and I was visiting Hong Kong at the time. I hold a PRC Chinese passport (red passport) and have a clear, legitimate financial background. I went to the R9 (Regular) counter to apply for a bank account. However, the staff refused to proceed the moment they saw my passport, without reviewing any documents, asking any questions, or conducting any form of individual assessment. The refusal was immediate and based solely on the passport I presented. This is a clear case of discriminatory treatment based on nationality. Banking decisions should be made according to compliance requirements and documentation, not blanket assumptions tied to a specific passport. If this reflects Hang Seng Bank’s policy or the training given to staff at regular service counters, it raises serious concerns about professionalism, fairness, and equal treatme

Hang Seng Bank in Hong Kong is becoming increasingly inefficient (Causeway Bay, Yee Wo Street, and 33 King's Road, North Point). You have to queue, get a ticket, and wait a long time. The counters aren't fully open; less than half are open. The staff are incredibly slow; they're inconsistent in their work schedule.
