I've never been treated so badly at a bank. I wanted to open a savings account, but the app wouldn't let me because I have a NIE (Foreigner Identification Number). They told me I had to open the account and validate my NIE in person. I went to the bank to open the account, and the woman who helped me seemed quite arrogant. She told me I couldn't open the account in person because it was an online account, and if I did it in person, I would have to pay fees. I told her that on the phone they had told me I HAD to do it in person because the system doesn't detect the NIE, and that the procedure should be the same for me, just in person (without fees). The woman took my NIE to photocopy it and told me to send my registration certificate and other documents to an email address. Then she forgot to give me back my NIE, and they never replied to my email. The next day I went back and they returned my NIE (Foreigner Identification Number). Then, when I told them they weren't answering my calls
Charging almost €30 over two months for a late payment of €37 seems illegal to me, but they do it anyway. And the way they then try to get the money back is outrageous. If it can be avoided, all the better.
We went to apply for a mortgage, and at first everything seemed fine. They were friendly until you handed over all the required documentation (which was considerable), then they disappeared and never contacted you again. A month and a half later, we called again asking for Tania, and another colleague answered. She apologized and said she would call us back, but they never did. Frankly, they were very unprofessional, as you give them all sorts of confidential information, and they don't even bother to return your calls. I absolutely do not recommend them.
The worst treatment one can receive.
They don't want people with little money in their accounts. My 60-year-old friend, who's in a bad financial situation, had his account blocked without warning. They're committing several illegal acts and mistreating a vulnerable person. I hope they at least return the €165 he had in his account, if things don't go badly.
