This is more of a heads-up than a complaint. I visited the main branch downtown for a simple bank card replacement. It’s clear the staff here are managing more than just everyday banking—they’re also dealing with some of the downtown challenges many businesses face. While I was taking a few photos for this review (not of people or sensitive areas), I was approached by security and asked not to. Fair enough—I didn’t know it was an issue, and I didn’t push it. At the counter, it took a bit longer than expected, as there seemed to be training underway. One staff member appeared to be overseeing much of the process and was polite, thanking me for my patience while giving final approvals—even for something as simple as a replacement card, despite me providing ID, account info, and showing the app. Again, not a big deal—just a reminder that procedures are tight, and staff are being coached up in real time. Final thoughts: There was no rudeness and no service failure, but if you’re ba

I was at the City Centre location yesterday to cash a cheque but I forgot my bank card. It was a pleasure to deal with Samuel. I would just like to say that I appreciated the steps you took to make sure that my account was safe. Friendly and professional. My impression of the staff who work there !!!!! Today March 2/2026 I had the opportunity to have Samuel again. He was very helpful and pleasant. I appreciate your help Samuel!!

The staff is very incompetent starting with the manager Mr. Butt. Went in to find out mortgage rates, and the "mortgage advisor" didn't even know the existing rates. She went to the branch manager Reg Butt to find out who also didn't know the rates. She asked me what rates I'm getting at other banks, to see if they can match it. They have no idea what their rates are and what the existing rates are in the market. When I gave them the rate CIBC is offering manager said "that's not possible", when he doesn't even know his rates to begin with. Very very incompetent people, rude, and with no idea how to treat customers. Stay away!

Samuel may be the most incompetent employee working that I’ve ever witnessed. A complete lack of any knowledge, consistently has to take breaks every 2 minutes to go ask a question to a supervisor. He’s so useless, he is unable to even rip a cheque on the perforation without taking 2 minutes and asking his supervisor for permission. It took over an hour to deposit a few cheques… The standards of employees has really gone downhill over the last few years.

I had an issue recently with my accounts being frozen due to suspected fraud… it was an insane hassle to get it dealt with but Samuel and Ruth made sure I left that branch with everything solved. They both went above and beyond to rectify the situation and made sure I had access to my account before I left. I couldn’t thank them enough for their hard work and kindness. People like them are what makes this world go round and I am eternally appreciative of them. If you need assistance, they are the people to go to!
