Customers who frequent the Bank of Ireland in Douglas are well aware of what a customer service blackhole this branch is (or had been). Alas, as most of these customers are elderly they’ve easily been dismissed by the manager and staff. They don’t open the doors on time, that’s how poor things are (or had been) here. There are only two cashier desks, and one of these is usually closed despite there being numerous customers in the queue. The remainder of the staff swan around the place, rearranging Christmas decorations and other frivolous measures. The manager “does the chats” over the phone with some staff members, gossiping about the customers in the queue and whatnot. However, this all changed on the morning of Friday 19th December 2025. I provided the manager and floor staff with an education in customer service. They implemented this instantly, and with that the second cashier window opened. I needed an urgent bank transfer of a month's rent plus a deposit due to moving into a new property which I couldn't do online because of limitations for new payees. Helen from this branch was most helpful throughout my visit which motivated me to write this review. Not only did she guide me through the form for the transfer, she noticed that my request was just at the cut-off time after which it could've been sent too late, so she took personal care in ensuring that it gets forwarded asap, and she called me back twice to update me on its status. The transfer made it in time and my family had no delays with moving into our new home. This was one of the best customer service interactions that I've had in years, and I know what good CS means being a CS manager myself. Thank you Helen and the Douglas BOI team!

The attitude of the staff in this branch is shocking. Went there on behalf of my employer to lodge cash this morning. Cashier questioned (quite cheekily) where I got the money from - last I checked that information is of no business to a bank cashier? I explained to her that we are a retail business whose customers pay in cash from time to time, not that it was any of her concern, and if she had an issue with it she should enquire why we are waiting 6 months+ for lodgement cards to come from them. Once the lodgement cards do finally come, it will eliminate the need for her to even be present... Outside the fact we have been banking with them for almost 14years as a business - Hello BOI, WE ARE YOUR CUSTOMER..! Met with the same awful attitude time and time again when it comes to any sort of banking we need to do in person. These people need to remember, most of their jobs have already been replaced by automatic machines, the next 10 years of banking will probably see no physical presen

Atrocious customer service. Deposited €1000 inside atm on Friday. No receipt, advisor said money was stuck, they would phone me to confirm receipt. They phoned and acknowledged €50. Heard nothing since, can’t contact them other than by Twitter! They don’t care about their customers one iota! Update, finally got a call Tuesday midday, money will br credited within 24 hours. 5 days after it was paid in. No apology, nothing, disgrace.
