For people who just come to NZ, NOT recommend you to open account with ASB, so much hassles to deal with! Freezing my Mum's account with no contact and notifications, take so many hours to contact them over the phone, not solving the problem, tell Mum still need go to branch to solve it, all of these are because they need her to send back a letter about her tax details, which is a letter she never received. Will definitely help mum transfer to other bank!
