I believe ethical banking is important and a good way to have a positive impact. But if it comes at the expense of quality to the point that a bank falls behind almost all competitors*, you're asking too much of your customers. The staff in this branch were friendly and trying to do their best during my visit, but poor fundamental processes meant that an individual doing their best was still profoundly failing customers. Specific to this branch: 1. The branch was clearly understaffed. If people are off on holidays, it's incumbent on management to provide adequate alternate cover. This was not the case. It's a BANK. You have enough money to fund staff sufficiently. And if local management can't get enough funds for staff, kick up a fuss with upper management. Doesn't matter where the accountability lies, someone failed their customers. 2. The queue "system" (non-existent) was confusing customers. People didn't know whose turn it was or what the difference was between queueing for enqu

I came into the Islington branch of the Co-operative Bank today to report the death of my father, a customer of the bank. What should have been handled with compassion and efficiency was instead met with indifference and delay. The staff member, Suzanne, made a face as though my request was an inconvenience and asked me to sit down. Despite waiting patiently, no one came to assist me. I had to approach the desk twice for an update. The first time I was told someone would come out to me – they never did. The second time I was told the colleague responsible was on lunch for another 35 minutes, even though I had already been sitting there for 20. Meanwhile, another customer who arrived after me was served by Suzanne's colleague who i was then advised would deal with my request, who had been present the whole time. I was left waiting over 40 minutes without a single attempt to deal with my bereavement request. Reporting a death is already a painful and sensitive process. To be treated w

The Angel branch staff in general are so helpful and accommodating. I had an unscheduled meeting with Shirley- Ann who assisted me in opening a savings account. She was informative and helpful and unlike some of the other high street banks at the Angel l was made to feel that as a customer l mattered. In a digital age where most transactions now happen it was refreshing to talk to a knowledgable human.

wow the opening times have changed recently. Couldn't some of the opening times include a weekday evening, instead of the day? that would be really useful

Generally, the staff at this branch has been helpful, and the service has met my expectations. However, my recent experience left me feeling frustrated, and I feel compelled to leave a 2/5 rating. I went in to deposit a cheque for my daughter, but the staff member assisting me seemed overly focused on explaining details of the process. She repeatedly went over things I didn’t need to know, like the specific slips to use and her workflow. While I understand she was trying to be thorough, I found it unnecessary and felt like it turned a simple task into a lecture. As a busy person myself, I appreciate efficiency and would have preferred a straightforward, quick service without extra explanations.
