Took more than two hours just to open a simple savings account. The bankers were extremely irresponsible and acted as if they were the only ones with busy schedules, assuming customers have all the time in the world. As a bank, they should understand the importance of customer experience and retention. I only chose this branch because it was close to my office, but the service was very unprofessional. If this continues, HNB is bound to lose more customers and its reputation will decline rapidly. Definitely not recommended for a quick banking service

my deep disappointment regarding the service I received at the HNB Barnes Place branch. I visited the branch to request a new debit card for my account, which the bank account has been maintaining for over five years. However, the experience was far from what I expected from a reputed financial institution. The Deputy Manager at the branch treated me in an unprofessional and disrespectful manner. She questioned me in a way that made me feel like a suspect rather than a loyal customer. She inquired about how many debit cards had been issued, implied there was something suspicious, and refused to issue a new card without giving a valid reason. She also asked irrelevant and personal questions about my profession and whether I use online banking, which I felt were intrusive and unnecessary. It was frustrating, time-consuming, and made me feel humiliated. To make matters worse, she advised me to get my debit card from the branch where I originally opened the account – the Islamic Unit. wanted to get a new debit card for my account, which I have been using for over a decade and when I wanted to do it they said it was a joint account😇 where I use the HNB app and online facility by myself from the above account . Never had a joint account in the last 10 years. These people did not know the basic fundamentals !!!. Please educate the people about their job role Then I was told to go to the Kirulapone branch by a lady and there they said this is not a joint account and gave me the card in 5 minutes.

I'm forced to use this branch as it is the closest to my workplace, but the customer service and the basic knowledge they have and can provide for any service is the absolute bottom of the barrel, I'm afraid. I keep having to call the excellent HNB Nugegoda branch to clarify every single thing I'm told at this branch.

On March 25th, 2024, I visited the HNB Barnes Place branch to settle a loan and finalize the release of a house, a process coordinated between HNB Maskeliya and Barnes Place. The officer in charge the documents, Rashmi, and the bank manager exhibited terrible customer service and unprofessional behaviour and significantly delayed the proceedings. Despite my attempts to settle the loan, I was directed to contact another branch for unknown reasons. Thankfully, a lawyer friend who works for HNB was able to intervene and offer some assistance. As of today, I have still not received the house deed or clearance letter due to HNB's unacceptable delays. This entire experience has been frustrating and frankly ridiculous. I have filed a formal complaint and expect a swift resolution to this matter.
