Online banking with BBVA is outstanding but in-person banking is horrendous. There's absolutely zero customer service. The tellers behave like government bureaucrats annoyed that you've asked them to do their jobs. Also, be prepared to wait a long time if you have to do anything in-person. It's truly stunning to experience, especially coming from the US where banks (while corrupt as anywhere) actually treat customers like customers and say please and thank you. After saying all of that, if you're considering getting an online account with BBVA, I'd recommend it. As sad as it is, BBVA is as good as it gets in Spain.

Don’t waist your time, very impolite and unwilling to assist you!

In 2024, I opened a payroll account with BBVA, which offered a €350 bonus for direct deposit of my salary as a civil servant. A year later, I still haven't received the bonus. Verónica Albadalejo, besides being rude and providing terrible customer service, made a mistake in the application process and failed to submit the required confirmation of the promotion. I've been fighting this for over a year, and she refuses to take responsibility, while BBVA washes its hands of the matter. I recommend you don't trust anything Verónica tells you, verify everything she says, and demand everything in writing.

The receptionist provided terrible customer service. I went to complete an in-person transaction because I had previously called a BBVA insurance agent who told me I could do it at any branch. The receptionist told me to call BBVA insurance, and when I told her I had already done so before going, she said the transaction couldn't be done at that branch and that I had to go to the branch where I opened the account. I called the branch where I opened the account—it's worth noting that it's in another province—and they told me it's a global company and that I could go to any branch to resolve my issue, including that one. However, the receptionist insisted I had to resolve my matter at that branch. To make matters worse, the receptionist had the authority to tell me they wouldn't assist me at that branch because I didn't open my account there, therefore I'm NOT a client of that branch (?!).
